The institute offers examinations on mechanical, thermal, chemical, and other properties according to DIN or ISO. To make it easier for buyers, project managers, quality planners, or salespeople to research the appropriate testing scopes, KIMW was looking for an offer configurator, or a solution that compiles the relevant positions according to the testing standard.
The goal was to simplify planning for customers and give them more certainty in their selection. For example, through the offer configurator, even buyers with little expertise should be able to obtain a flawless quote in just a few clicks. Due to the large number of standards that can be tested, which are offered to the customer in the configurator, data preparation posed the greatest challenge. Through joint coordination and preparation in Excel logic, the data and logic were ultimately stored in an easily maintainable format.
Tested at the fair
In a joint workshop, an initial questionnaire and the logic to achieve the desired outcome were defined. As a result, each user should receive a simple overview of what needs to be checked, how many components are required, how long the testing will take at most, and how much it will cost in total. There were numerous interrelated factors to consider. On the FoxBase platform, this was possible with an individually programmed calculation of the maximum processing time for all test items and the summation of the individual testing costs. With the appropriate styling, the result could be clearly presented to the customer.
Subsequently, KIMW, with support from FoxBase, developed the quotation configurator, which was first tested at the Fakuma trade fair. After successfully testing the quotation configurator in the market, it was published in the institute's webshop. Customers and interested parties are guided through an interactive questionnaire to the service that suits their requirements and can complete the purchase directly, as the software is linked to the shopping cart.
The new DIN SPEC 91446
The FoxBase platform aids in the simple and swift selection of standard tests in the area of 'Automotive Testing'. Not only do customers and interested parties benefit from the software, but also the institute's sales staff, as they save time in creating estimates. At the same time, the offer configurator promotes the newly created DIN SPEC 91446 co-developed by the Plastics Institute Lüdenscheid. The KIMW offers service and advice for implementation via the configurator, as well as all necessary tests including labeling.
The DIN SPEC 91446 provides comprehensive guidelines on data quantity and quality for material classification. It establishes a system for classifying plastic recyclates according to the depth of their description.
